In 1975 there was a forest fire disaster in Südheide. The extinguishing work turned out to be difficult because it was pine monoculture. As a consequence, the pine trees in the Radbrucher- / Einehofer forest were thinned and underplanted with beeches. Source: District forester Radbruch.
