It also goes a few meters away from the Seine, less stupidly. Very good streets and paths!

The 3 bridges between Le Havre and Rouen (Normandy, Tancarville and Brotonne (the latter quite dangerous for bicycles) are very high because they have to allow passage of large tonnage boats intended to supply Paris, the Seine being an important component. These boats are then unloaded in Rouen onto smaller tonnage boats which go to Paris. This system of ferries, surprisingly free, is therefore there to compensate for this lack of possible crossings. Do not hesitate to use them, it is really a very nice plus.

There are plenty of free ferries for both bikes and cars. They run quickly and the boatmen are friendly. I think there are eight ferries in total. ☺

To avoid the extremely high bridges over the Seine, we chose the ferry. We enjoyed the crossing – completely uncomplicated and pleasant. I took photos of the departure times.

How many no-traffic gravel bike trails are available around Montville?

While dedicated gravel biking trails are still emerging, the Montville area offers a growing number of routes suitable for gravel bikes, often utilizing quiet country roads, fire trails, and converted railway lines. Our guide currently features 4 routes that are ideal for traffic-free gravel biking, ranging from moderate to difficult in intensity.

What kind of terrain can I expect on Montville's no-traffic gravel bike trails?

Montville's gravel trails primarily traverse the lush Sunshine Coast hinterland, offering a mix of rolling hills, eucalypt forests, and occasional rainforest sections. You can expect varied surfaces from compacted dirt and gravel to some paved sections on quieter roads, providing both challenging climbs and scenic descents.

Are there any family-friendly no-traffic gravel biking options in Montville?

Yes, the region offers potential for family-friendly rides, especially on flatter, converted railway lines or less challenging fire trails. These paths provide a safe, car-free environment through pleasant scenery. Look for routes with minimal elevation gain and shorter distances for younger riders or those new to gravel biking.

Can I bring my dog on Montville's quiet gravel trails?

Dog-friendly policies vary depending on the specific trail and land management. While national parks like Kondalilla generally restrict dogs, some state forests or local council-managed trails may permit them on a leash. Always check local signage or the specific route details on komoot before heading out with your furry companion.

What natural features or landmarks can I see along the gravel bike routes?

The Montville area is rich in natural beauty. While riding, you might encounter sections of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk, offering panoramic views. Keep an eye out for glimpses of Lake Baroon and the lush forests of Kondalilla National Park. The region is known for its waterfalls, though direct access might require a short hike off the bike trail.

What is the best time of year for gravel biking in Montville to avoid traffic?

The cooler, drier months from autumn to spring (March to November) are generally ideal for gravel biking in Montville. The weather is more pleasant, and while popular attractions might see visitors, the 'no traffic' routes tend to remain quiet. Summer can be hot and humid, with a higher chance of rain, which can affect trail conditions.

Are there any circular no-traffic gravel bike routes in Montville?

Many of the gravel biking opportunities in Montville are designed as loops or can be combined to create circular routes, allowing you to start and finish at the same point. This is particularly true for trails that utilize forest tracks or connect different quiet country roads. Check the route details on komoot for specific loop options.

Where can I park when accessing Montville's quiet gravel trails?

Parking is typically available at trailheads, national park entrances, or designated public parking areas within Montville and surrounding towns. For routes that start in more remote areas, look for small pull-offs or designated parking bays. Always ensure you park legally and respectfully, especially in residential areas.

What is the difficulty level of the no-traffic gravel bike trails in Montville?

Our guide features routes ranging from moderate to difficult. The difficulty often stems from the rolling hills and elevation changes characteristic of the hinterland, as well as the varied gravel surfaces. Are there cafes or pubs near the no-traffic gravel bike trails in Montville?

Montville and its neighboring towns like Maleny are known for their charming cafes and local pubs.
