Jaume Giró i Giró is one of the smallest and most historic wineries in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, but it has a long tradition in the production of cava, specifically since 1926. Today it is managed by the third generation of the family, and they continue to maintain their search for the greatest expression of a terroir of exceptional capacity and variation, as well as the protection of the tradition of the wines of that land. It is a cava with its own personality. The history of Jaume Giró i Giró: Today, at the head of the Jaume Giró i Giró winery is the oenologist Ramón Giró i Gramona, third generation of the family, who has given a definitive boost to the production and quality of its products, as demonstrated by very recent awards and recognitions. The family business has its origins at the beginning of the 20th century with ancestors dedicated to the cultivation of vines in the Penedès area. Ramón Giró i Mata built a winery in the centre of Sant Sadurni and officially founded a company dedicated to distilling liqueurs and making wine in 1926. In 1927 he bought a wine warehouse with a cellar: CAVA MONTANER in Sant Sadurní. His fame in the sector provided him with important contacts among champagne producers. At that time he took advantage of these contacts to buy wine from Catalan farmers and sell it to champagne producers in France and to wineries in Barcelona. The growth of this winery stagnated during the Spanish Civil War. It was not until years after the end of the war that Ramón's son, Jaume Giró i Giró, restarted the activity by supplying the needs of the emerging cellars that were slowly making their way among the large wineries in the town. He began the construction of new tanks, which would later become the current cellars. In them, wines were prepared to suit each "champagne drinker". Over time, the winery prospered, leading the current owner, manager and winemaker, Ramón Giró i Gramona, to take advantage of all the knowledge they had acquired during that time. Fifty years later, Jaume Giró i Giró produced his first cava, the fruit of the artisan philosophy that the company has always maintained: high quality, reduced runs and selection of the vintages considered excellent.
