There is no doubt that Iberians and Romans inhabited these lands and must have occupied and fortified this strategic location. In the 8th century, the site was an Arab defensive tower, built by the Berber tribe of the Miknasa, who gave the city its name. The current toponym Mequinenza is probably evident from the name. Since then, the strategically located fortress has been the center of many battles and conquests. It is now owned by a foundation and can only be visited by appointment

It looked great from far below. Unfortunately, when we got to the top, we discovered that the gate was locked. We should have gotten a permit from the town hall. Nevertheless, we enjoyed a little bit of the surrounding area with fantastic views

In full sun and in July... a source of fresh water!! Very fresh! A true miracle in the middle of the city when you arrive 🥵🥵... the feeling is... brutal! Take advantage of it to cool off and fill up drums... and more shade and a bench to rest on.

The Segre river is the main tributary of the Ebro on its left bank and as it passes through the city of Lleida it already runs through its last section, with a slight slope and low speed. However, floods of water passing through Lleida have occurred throughout history. For this reason, in this area the river is channeled, allowing various recreational areas on both banks, as well as various bridges and walkways that connect them to each other.

Beautiful place... the one where under a fair sun you find the shade of a large banana tree that allows you to rest and refresh yourself on the grass, while the sun goes down and you decide to find the moment to continue the way
