A great picnic spot. A very large meadow on the River Dart.

One of Dartmoor's very best swimming spots, Sharrah Pool is an utter delight. It's accessed by beautiful riverside trails that are nice and shaded on warm days. With its cascades, calm areas and helpful rocky steps, its an idyllic place for a dip.

At the northern end of Hamel Down, where the moor drops down to Natsworthy, is a memorial to a RAF bomber that crashed after a raid in March 1941 during the Second World War. The memorial is by the side of a path that cuts across the moors to/from English Heritage's ancient settlement Grimspound. The memorial reads: R.A.F S.49. R.D.W. C.J.L. R.B. R.L.A.E. 21.3.41. Very nice for hiking, mud is to be expected after wet days, good shoes are urgently required.

Here in Dartmeet at Badgers Holt, weather permitting, there is great climbing in the River Dart over the big rocks and the crumbling Clapperbridge

Dartmeet is named as the meeting point of the two major tributaries of the Dart, the East Dart and West Dart rivers. This has been a crossing point for hundreds of years with the remains of an old clapper bridge near the current road bridge (built in 1792). It's a nice place to stop for a break before tackling the road climbs in either direction.
