Gorgeous route, nice and quiet, but watch out for the steep hill entering Heythrop!

Edgehill Castle (Tower) which is now a rather nice pub/restaurant. The castle was built in the 18th Century as a 'sham' castle reputedly on the exact spot where Charles I raised his standard before the Battle of Edgehill during the first English Civil War. Apparently Cromwell got there too late for the battle.

While the Church of England parish church of Saint James the Apostle is known to have existed by 1074 (a Norman carved doorway in the nave dates from this period), much of the building, including the bell tower, is Decorated Gothic from the first half of the 14th century. St. James' also has features from the 13th, 15th and 16th centuries. St. James' is a Grade I listed building. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somerton,_Oxfordshire

This is a delightful local nature reserve managed by the Adderbury Parish Council. Once a part of the ornamental garden for Adderbury House, the lakes were neglected until local efforts to restore them in the 1980s. Today, they are a haven for wildlife. Signs on the trails around the lakes inform you of what you might be able to see and when.
