This is silly, & a bit tasteless, but I was once told (jokingly albeit) that the man hole is for the un-dead to get in & out of their graves. It part of a happy memory from when I once waked here in February 2025 with someone very dear to me that I've since lost.

Beautiful little church on the edge of the preserved Roman town of Calleva. The church dates from the 12th century and was built on an earlier Pagan site using old Roman bricks. There is a Roman column in the cemetery.

Imposing church on the way out of Theale towards the A4, on a much smaller scale its resemblance with the Salisbury cathedral is quite noticeable. Its vaulted ceiling and ornate organ are some of the most striking features inside.

Nice and cosy rural pub, despite being on a main road this place offers some outdoor seating in the back which is a little better shielded from noise and traffic than the tables by its side. The atmosphere indoors is friendly and warm, while outdoors seating is better suited for those warm Summer days, where the pergola and big trees can offer some shading and respite from the heat. The food is good, the staff friendly and prices are on par with other similar establishments.

This 19th-century Grade I listed building was designed by Edward Garbett in the 13th century early English style, choosing Salisbury Cathedral as his pattern. Part of the Church of England, this Anglican church was consecrated in 1832 by the Bishop of Salisbury, in whose diocese it then stood.
