Nice route

It might not be the pretties, with scenic views of the A331, but it's always a welcome sight. Note - there are paths north/south at each end of the aqueduct.

You have a big climb before so try changing to the big gears prior to reaching the gate

Frimley Lodge Park is a great place to visit on a family hike. There are two children's playgrounds, a minature railway, two picnic areas and pitch and putt. All surrounded by meadows and woodland on the banks of the Basingstoke Canal. Plus public toilets and a cafe.

The Basingstoke Canal offers 32 miles of canal tow path. Some say it is the most beautiful in the country. It was built in 1794 and stretches between the River Thames at Weybridge to Basingstoke. After falling into disrepair in the 1950s, it was renovated and reopened for navigation in 1991.

Thousands of motorists drive underneath this aqueduct on the A331 without having any idea at all that a canal is suspended above their heads. The canal was opened in 1995 and the waterway long pre-dates the A road beneath it. The original plan was to drop the canal down using locks, but the decision was eventually made to keep the canal level and build the road underneath, requiring the construction of the aqueduct. To enjoy this fantastic piece of engineering, walk or ride alongside the canal on the towpath as it passes on its merry way, uninterrupted by the road underneath.

A nice view point over the ranges towards Guildford. Just be sure to check for Red flags or check https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/south-east-training-estate-firing-times

Up and over the canal. A good way to link trails on either side of the canal
