Rondvassbu is the DNT cabin in the very heart of the Rondane National Park and is deservedly popular. Originally built in 1903, the facility has seen many renovations in its time and provides unrivalled access to Rondane’s major peaks and trails. If you plan to camp nearby, you can still pay for the use of the facilities and purchase food.

For example, the challenging Mjølkerampe Vassklepp – View of Lake Vinstre loop from Skåbu kyrkje is a long circular tour, as is the more moderate Spranget Trailhead – DNT Rondvassbu loop from Mysusæter, which takes you into the Rondane National Park area.
The no-traffic routes in Nord-Fron often pass through or near stunning natural attractions. You might encounter parts of the majestic Rondane National Park, Norway's oldest national park, known for its high-mountain landscapes. Notable highlights include the impressive Ulafossen Waterfall, and various summits like Veslfjellet. The region is also rich in lakes, such as Lake Furusjøen, and offers scenic views of the Gudbrandsdalen valley.
The best time for touring cycling in Nord-Fron is typically during the summer months, from late spring to early autumn. This period offers the most favorable weather conditions, with accessible mountain roads and trails free of snow. The long daylight hours also provide ample time to explore the scenic landscapes.

Absolutely. Nord-Fron offers several challenging no-traffic touring routes with considerable elevation gain and longer distances. For instance, the DNT Rondvassbu – Rondane National Park loop from Bjørgebu is a difficult route covering over 44 km with nearly 700 meters of ascent. While many of these routes prioritize solitude and natural immersion, some may pass near small villages or mountain lodges (hytter) where you can find refreshments or accommodation. The Gudbrandsdalen valley, which Nord-Fron is part of, has a network of traditional heritage farms and cafes. For specific routes, it's advisable to check the route details for points of interest like the Peer Gynt Kafé or DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association) cabins, which often offer services to travelers.
Public transport access to the starting points of some routes is possible, especially for those closer to larger towns in the Gudbrandsdalen valley. However, for routes deep within the mountains or national parks, public transport options may be limited, and driving to a trailhead is often more practical. Always check local bus or train schedules and their bicycle carriage policies in advance.
