The coal harbour is a side channel of the Albert Canal, built for the transport of coal. This harbour was built at the same time as the Albert Canal, along with three other coal harbours. Before the coal harbours existed, coal was transported by rail to the Walloon steel industry. For this purpose, twelve reserve steam locomotives were stationed in Beringen. The coal harbours became fully operational in 1937. Although there is no longer any mining, these coal harbours are still in use, including for loading imported coal for power plants.

Webbekoms Broek is part of the Webbekomsbroek-Borchbeemden Flemish Nature Reserve, a contiguous area of 397 hectares managed by the Flemish Agency for Nature and Forests. This also includes the Diesters Broek, the Schaffens Broek, and the Borchbeemden: Rotbroek, Gorenbroek, and Sint-Jansberg. Several watercourses flow through the area. The most important of these is the Demer. The others are primarily its tributary, the Zwarte Beek, the Grote Leigracht, and the Leigracht. The Demer Valley has been plagued by floods for centuries. The most severe floods in recent history date back to 1998. There were also serious floods in Diest in 2008. To prevent severe water damage, retention basins and floodplains were installed. The Webbekoms Broek and its surroundings constitute a floodplain. In September 1998, a retention basin with a surface area of 144 hectares was put into operation in the Webbekoms Broek. The area can hold 3.5 million m³ of water. There is an inner basin and an outer basin. The inner basin is surrounded by dikes. The remainder forms the outer basin, which primarily functions as a nature reserve.

The old late-medieval Gothic church of Lummen was located in the same place as the current church, but oriented east-west. It was demolished around 1865 to make way for the current Neo-Romanesque Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, a three-nave basilica built from 1870 to 1872. Inside the church, you can find a Romanesque baptismal font from the 12th century and a solid copper lectern with a base of white Carrara marble (1642). The Neo-Romanesque painting has only been partially preserved, the stained-glass windows date from 1911 and 1913. The church organ has been protected as a monument since 2004. The tower and the facade of the church were renovated in 1993. @https://inventaris.onroerenderfgoed.be/waarnemingsobjecten/164383 & @https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onze-Lieve-Vrouw_Hemelvaartkerk_(Lummen)
