The church in Basedow, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is a historic village church dating back to the 13th century. It was a daughter church of Malchin from 1247 and has undergone numerous alterations and renovations over the centuries. The chancel is rectangular and eastward-facing, built of fieldstones. The wider nave, constructed of brick, dates from the 15th century. The tower was simplified after a fire in 1766 and redesigned in the Neo-Gothic style in 1853.

St. John's Church is a typical North German brick Gothic building. The church consists of a 42-meter-long and 22-meter-high nave, a choir, a vestibule, and a massive, offset tower. The accessible 65-meter-high tower offers a fantastic panorama of Mecklenburg Switzerland all the way to Lake Kummerow.

From 1405, the von Hahn family appeared as co-owners; until about 1425, they acquired the entire property. The Hahns held the estate for over 400 years (until 1816). Under Friedrich II. Count von Hahn (from approx. 1772), the place experienced a scientific and cultural flourishing. He modernized agriculture, built up a valuable library, and established Mecklenburg's first observatory around 1792/93 and 1801 respectively (the tower still exists today and is the oldest preserved observatory building in Germany). His astronomical achievements were honored in 1834 with a lunar crater ("Hahn"). His son Carl (Friedrich) von Hahn, the "Theater Count", squandered the family fortune through his passion for theater and acting. In 1816, the great Hahn estate bankruptcy occurred; Remplin was sold.
