Attention, it's not possible to do the loop. We just tried today, we had the opportunity to see the tower but the path up is no longer allowed!! Grrr!! Too bad!

Great easy hike with exceptional views in the summer. Remember your swimsuit, lots of coves and beaches. A naturist section.

The coastal path is beautiful, but the way back inland is a hot sandy track with no shade or views. It's better to walk back along the sea!

Beautiful walk! Lots of ups and downs. We did this walk in 31 degrees Celsius. Plenty of water is recommended.

The island features diverse terrain, from wild, rugged, and mountainous areas to dense forests and rocky coastlines. Many trails are well-signposted and offer pleasant shade, making them comfortable for families. Expect some elevation changes, even on easier routes, as the island is characterized by its natural, unspoiled landscape.
For families looking for a manageable coastal walk, consider the L'Escalet - Cap Taillat Coastal Path. It's a moderate 7 km route with beautiful sea views. Another option is the Arboussière Beach – Plage du Pontillon loop, which is also around 7 km and offers a pleasant loop experience.
Port-Cros is rich in natural beauty and historical sites. You can explore the Giens Peninsula, spot Flamingos at Salins des Pesquiers, or walk along the scenic Port-Cros Coastal Trail. The island also features historical forts and offers breathtaking panoramic views from various points, such as Mont Vinaigre.
Port-Cros is a beautiful destination year-round, but spring and autumn generally offer the most pleasant conditions for family hiking. The weather is milder, and the trails are less crowded than in the peak summer months. Summers can be hot, so if visiting then, plan your hikes for early mornings or late afternoons and ensure you carry plenty of water.
As Port-Cros is a protected national park, specific regulations apply to pets. Generally, dogs are not permitted on the hiking trails to protect the island's delicate ecosystem and wildlife. It's always best to check the latest park regulations before your visit.
Given the island's natural environment and limited amenities outside the main village, it's crucial to be prepared. Bring adequate water and food for everyone, wear appropriate hiking shoes for varied terrain, and pack sun protection (hats, sunscreen). A first-aid kit is also advisable.
Yes, many trails in Port-Cros are designed as loops, which are great for families. For example, the Baume Beach – Plage du Pradeau loop is a moderate 10 km route that offers a complete circuit. Another option is the longer View from Cap Taillat – View of Cap Taillat loop, which is around 16 km and provides extensive coastal views.
The area is highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.55 stars. Reviewers often praise the island's unspoiled natural beauty, the stunning panoramic sea views, the diverse flora and fauna, and the well-maintained, shaded trails that make for an immersive outdoor experience.
Port-Cros is an island, so access is primarily by ferry from the mainland (e.g., from Hyères or Le Lavandou). Cars and bicycles are not permitted on the island itself, as it's a car-free national park. Parking facilities are available at the mainland ferry departure points. It's advisable to check ferry schedules and book tickets in advance, especially during peak season.
Dining options are limited to the main village of Port-Cros. Outside of this area, you will find very few, if any, places to purchase food or drinks. It is highly recommended to bring all necessary provisions, including snacks and plenty of water, for your family's hike.
