With a good ice cream parlour, the market square offers almost everything that makes a cyclist's heart beat faster, but the way there is paved with stones ;)

After many years of disputes between German and Czech tourists, the lookout tower was created in 1925 by adding a tower-like revolving tower. However, it has been closed since the mid-1980s due to poor technical conditions. After the reconstruction in 2009, the observation tower is again available to visitors. The total height of the observation tower is 10 meters and 65 steps lead to it. After climbing to the glass observation deck, you can see the peaks of the Železné, Lužické and Jizerské mountains, Kunětická hora or Říp.

While the immediate vicinity of Svíb in Croatia offers numerous quiet roads through the Dalmatian hinterland, komoot currently features a selection of routes in a different region also named Svíb. For example, you can explore routes like the Smiřice Bridge – Plácky Elbe Bridge loop from Plotiště nad Labem, which is rated as easy and covers over 33 km.
The region around Svíb in Croatia, particularly the Cetina River Canyon, offers a mix of paved roads with breathtaking views, often with significantly less traffic after areas like Gata. You'll encounter varied terrain, from serene river-side paths to more challenging climbs in the Dinarides mountains. Routes in the broader Dalmatian hinterland often wind through hills and rural landscapes.
For families seeking quieter rides, the paved sections along the Cetina River Canyon, especially those with reduced traffic, can be suitable. These routes offer scenic views without the intensity of mountain climbs. When planning, look for routes with lower elevation gain and shorter distances. The Smiřice Bridge – Plácky Elbe Bridge loop from Plotiště nad Labem is an easy option, covering 33 km with minimal elevation.
The Cetina River Canyon is a prominent natural feature, offering stunning views, waterfalls, and caves. Further afield, the majestic Biokovo mountains provide dramatic backdrops and panoramic vistas, including the Biokovo Skywalk at Ravna Vlaška. While these mountain routes can be challenging, they reward cyclists with spectacular scenery. The rural hinterland also offers untouched nature and traditional village views.
Yes, many touring routes are designed as loops, allowing you to start and end at the same point. For instance, the Bukvice [Mžany] loop from Sadová is a moderate 44.5 km route, and the Krkonoše Viewpoint (Pecka) loop from Bílé Poličany offers a more challenging 48 km ride with significant elevation gain.
Spring and autumn generally offer the most pleasant conditions for cycling in the Svíb region of Croatia, with milder temperatures and less tourist traffic. Summer can be hot, especially in the canyons and open hinterland, but early mornings or late afternoons can still be enjoyable. Winter cycling is possible but may require more preparation due to cooler temperatures and potential for rain or snow at higher elevations.
The routes vary significantly in difficulty. You can find easy, relatively flat options, such as the Smiřice Bridge – Plácky Elbe Bridge loop. There are also moderate routes like the Bukvice [Mžany] loop, and challenging ascents in the Biokovo mountains or routes like the Krkonoše Viewpoint (Pecka) loop, which features over 700 meters of elevation gain.
While specific cafes directly on every no-traffic route might be sparse, many routes pass through or near traditional villages in the Dalmatian hinterland where you can find local eateries or small shops. Larger towns like Omiš, which serves as a gateway to the Cetina Canyon, offer more amenities. It's always advisable to carry sufficient water and snacks, especially on longer or more remote sections.
The area is highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 5.0 stars. Reviewers often praise the stunning natural beauty, the tranquility of the less-trafficked roads, and the rewarding challenge of the varied terrain. The combination of river canyons, mountain vistas, and rural charm makes for a memorable touring experience.
Accessing the more remote no-traffic routes, especially in the Dalmatian hinterland, often requires personal transport. However, some routes might be accessible from towns like Omiš, which have bus connections. For routes in the Czech Svíb region, public transport options vary, but generally, starting points are chosen for their accessibility. Always check local public transport schedules and bike carriage policies in advance.
The suitability of your bike depends on the specific route. For paved roads along the Cetina River Canyon or easier loops, road, trekking, or gravel bikes are ideal. For more challenging routes with significant climbs in the Biokovo mountains or the Dinarides hinterland, a touring bike with a good gear range or a gravel bike would be more appropriate. Ensure your tires are suitable for potentially varied surfaces, even on mostly paved routes.
