The Church of the Cross is the Protestant church of Großenritte. This late Gothic building was completed in 1512 and likely replaced an older Romanesque church, about which no precise information exists. The year can be seen above the now-walled-up south portal. Inside, there is a late Gothic baptismal font and a pulpit from 1644. Paintings from before 1600 still adorn the walls. Unfortunately, I found the church closed.

The former hunting lodge was built between 1704 and 1707 by Landgrave Karl of Hesse-Kassel for his wife Maria Anna Amalia of Courland in the wide plain between the rivers Eder and Schwalm according to designs by court architect Johann Konrad Giesler. The swampy ground on the edge of the Eder floodplain was drained for the construction and supported with driven-in piles.
