In reference to the Hase River, which flows through the city of Osnabrück, Heinrich Brummack (1936–2018), a participant in documenta 8 in 1987, created the fishing city hare. His 1999 work, made of sandstone and painted metal mounted on a double-T beam, stands on the banks of the Hase near the intersection of Georgstraße and Öwer de Hase. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunst_im_%C3%B6ffentlichen_Raum_in_Osnabr%C3%BCck

Osnabrück with its old town, town hall, market square and old buildings is worth a visit.

The Osnabrück market in the old town is the "living room of the city". It is considered, along with the cathedral castle, to be one of the founding cells of the city. Archaeological excavations have shown that a market settlement existed west of the cathedral as early as the 9th century. The market forms a central point in the old town as a link between the Heger-Tor district in the west and the cathedral complex in the east. The architectural ensemble of the town hall, town scales, St. Mary's Church, town houses and market fountain is characteristic of the market. A traditional weekly market is no longer held on the square, but numerous events take place here. For example, the market regularly offers space for the Osnabrück Christmas market, May Week and the children's gathering at the end of the hobby horse riding. In the past, the promotion celebrations of the football club VfL Osnabrück, the "Osnabrück eats well" festival and other events and festivals have taken place here. Demonstrations also take place on the square, which is steeped in history for urban democracy. https://erleben.osnabrueck.de/de/stadt-erleben/gehenswertes/m

The Haarmann fountain was created in 1909 by the Fürstenau sculptor Adolf Graef and is located at the southern end of the Herrenteichwall, which means it forms the end of the wall. The fountain consists of a bronze figure of a miner who is laboriously drilling for a spring and is now happy about his success. In front of him is an artificial rock wall from which the water flows over the worker at the point where the hole was drilled and then collects in a semi-circular basin. From there it flows into another basin. The stonework consists of the then new artificial stone Durilit, which was made from broken Piesberger quarry stone, processed into concrete and cast into the appropriate shape. The fountain is considered to be Germany's oldest workers' monument, but - contrary to what is often thought - does not represent the mining accident on September 7, 1893 in the Stüveschacht near Piesberg, which had already taken place 16 years ago at the time of its construction and in which nine miners lost their lives. Instead, it symbolizes the high level of effort and hard work that, through perseverance, ultimately leads to the goal and is rewarded with rich blessings. The bronze figure was created by the Fürstenau sculptor Adolf Graef based on his own design. From private letters in Graefe's estate, it can be seen that he imagined a miner drilling for water from a seam wall. It is also thanks to a coincidence that the miner figure still adorns the fountain today. During the Second World War, the miner had to be dismantled "to strengthen the metal reserve", as did the shepherd (Heinrich Ströker) from Rosenplatz. In 1949, a woman from Osnabrück discovered the bronze man by chance among other figures at the collection point of a scrap metal smelter in Bredelar near Brilon. She reported the find to the building authority, and city building officer Reiling was able to have the work of art bought back by the city. Apart from a small dent in the hand, the figure has remained intact. It's great that this work of art worth seeing has been preserved for us thanks to the initiative of this unfortunately unknown woman from Osnabrück. https://erleben.osnabrueck.de/de/stadt-erleben/sehenswertes/haarmannsbrunnen/
