Leipzig has a skyline that is distinctly different from other major German cities: instead of a closed banking district like in Frankfurt, the cityscape here is characterized by historical monuments and striking solitary high-rise buildings.

The Gustav Adolf Memorial in Breitenfeld commemorates the decisive battle of September 17, 1631, in which the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf defeated the imperial army and thus secured religious freedom for Protestants. The simple sandstone block was erected east of the town in 1831, on the 200th anniversary of the battle, and bears the inscription: "Religious freedom for the world saved Gustav Adolf, Christ and hero, at Breitenfeld." Breitenfeld is now a district of Leipzig, having been a part of the city since the incorporation of Lindenthal in 1999. The memorial is an important memorial site for European history and a popular destination for history buffs. This stop was created by the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group as part of the "Discover Green Corners - Leipzig's Northwest" tour. https://www.gruene-ecken-entdecken.de/leipzig/leipzigs-nordwesten.html

The Lindenthal Eco-Pool of the Leipzig Sports Pools is a showcase project for sustainable local recreation and was opened in 1998 as Germany's first ecological outdoor pool – even before Lindenthal was incorporated into Leipzig in 1999. Instead of chlorine, aquatic plants and microorganisms ensure clean water, supported by a modern gravel filter system. The pool was created as an initiative of the municipality, which, following the South Tyrolean model, created a natural alternative when renovating the old outdoor pool became financially impossible. Today, the eco-pool offers over 5,000 square meters of swimming fun amidst water lilies, reeds, and a diverse range of wildlife – an important contribution to environmental education, biodiversity, and quality of life in northwest Leipzig.
