The first naval vessel built on the Beaulieu River (called Salisbury) was launched in 1698, and is thought to have been built here at Bailey's Hard. You will also notice a brick building here with a tall chimney - this is the old estate brickworks, built in 1790: it made bricks, tiles and pipes. There is an information board provided here, and the views on the riverside are spellbinding, particularly at sunrise and sunset!

Off Shots Lane is the former Lymington Airfield. It used to be home to American fighter pilots during the World War 2 before D-Day. In 1946, it was restored to farmland, and these days it is an airstrip for Newton Park Estate.
