The current Moot Hall is dated 1813 but there has been an important town building on the same site for much longer than that. Originally the lower floor was a market and the upper floors used as offices and a courthouse. Today the ground floor is the tourist information office and the upper floors used for functions. The steps at the front and the main door are iconic in the fell running community as the start and end point of the Bob Graham Round.
