The church was built in 1916 and 1917 as a factory church for the Lauchhammer factory. The foundation stone was laid on August 28, 1916. The master builder was a certain Mr. Tafel, and the building owner was Lauchhammer AG. The church was consecrated on November 18, 1917. Its name, Peace Memorial Church, comes from the end of the First World War; it served as a memorial and monument for the fallen factory employees. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the building was converted into a conference and event venue and is now the cultural center of the district and the city of Lauchhammer under the motto "Experience culture." In addition to being used for small theater, cabaret and film screenings, the church can also be used for weddings, among other things.

The late 19th century hit “We are the singers of Finsterwalde” and the Finsterwalder Liederfest named after this title also made the city known nationwide. The additional name “Sängerstadt” has therefore been allowed to be used in official correspondence since 2009. Since May 16, 2013, with the approval of the Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior, the city has officially used this additional designation, including on the town entrance signs. This bronze statue commemorates the singers. www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finsterwalde
