Tips from the Community

Elfi
December 20, 2025, Windeckhaus, Bad Münstereifel

On Orchheimer Street stands the "Windecke House," built between 1644 and 1664. Its street-facing gable stands out from the other half-timbered houses in the town. Its builder came from the middle Moselle region, where houses with similar designs can be admired. The builder was not Court Councilor Windeck, who only resided there in the 18th century, but rather Paulus Pick, who appears in no other municipal records except in the 17th-century tax registers. He was likely a wealthy cloth merchant who offered his wares for sale on the ground floor, where the scales hung in the hall between the two bay windows. The living quarters were located on the first and second floors, and the warehouses above them. Beautiful carvings adorn the gable, especially the panels beneath the windows.

I think it's important to remember that the open staircase is very well integrated into the cityscape.
