The street "In den Schlägen" received a brand new asphalt surface in March 2025. It was desperately needed, considering the condition beforehand... 😊 And it's gotten a bit wider, too!

With the endurance racing bike (32 mm tires, tubeless, 5.0 bar) the surface is quite usable and I really enjoy riding on the road with it. I haven't tried anything narrower/harder. There are just cars or tractors on the road occasionally, and rarely trucks. With the Pino, however, we prefer to ride on the gravel path next door right by the canal: even nicer views, no cars, but pedestrians and dogs.

The cooling tower has since been blown away but the core buildings are still there.

Dinslaken Castle was probably built in the 12th century as a motte (= mound of earth with a tower). In the 15th and 16th centuries, the castle was significantly expanded, but then fell into disrepair and was badly damaged by a fire. After further construction work and destruction, the castle was given its current form in 1907-1909 and has been used as the administrative headquarters of the city of Dinslaken ever since. After further severe destruction in the Second World War, the castle was rebuilt on the old floor plan in 1950-52. More information: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Dinslaken

Even today, the quiet Krudenburg still exudes a touch of bygone times, which is partly due to the remains of the historic Krudenburg castle house. A two-story tower remains today from the former castle complex from the 14th century.
