At the halfway point, we reach an interesting sight, the Paulownia CO2 storage tree plantation southwest of Niep. The trees, which have grown almost perfectly straight, stand in neat rows; all of them are stripped of leaves to the same height of several meters; visually an artificial work of art. "The Empress tree, also called Paulownia, is a plant species from the genus Paulownia, which in turn forms the monotypic family Paulowniaceae within the order Lamiales." (Wiki) "The Paulownia trees have many advantages: They can cope with a wide variety of soils, bind a lot of CO2 and grow quickly. A forester from Schleswig-Holstein is therefore relying on this tree species, which actually comes from China." https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/schleswig-holstein/Aus-China-nach-Schleswig-Holstein-Paulownia-Baeume-,paulowniaplantage100.html (more info here) I can't find anything online about the Empress tree plantation between Niep and Hülser Berg.

It is always worth driving up to the Alsumer Berg to enjoy the beautiful view, on one side Thyssenkruppstahl and on the other side the Rhine.

Inexperienced riders can, of course, also use the regular forest path. It might be uncool, but it's safe 😉
