Many native animals live in the Leipziger Auwald: roe deer, foxes, badgers, but also endangered species like bats. The forest is not only a place for recreation, but also a sensitive ecosystem that requires consideration – quiet paths, no litter, no leaving the trails. A few years ago, the Leipzig City Council, on the initiative of the Green Party faction, commissioned an Auwald ranger concept, which resulted in two full-time rangers being hired by the city forestry department and have been effective ever since. They regularly patrol the Auwald with open eyes and ears, and are available for advice and assistance.
