Gut Sierhagen is one of twelve noble estates that share a long, traditional history in Ostholstein: small knight's castles surrounded by moats – called mottes – transformed in the early modern period into estates where noble landowners could rule over serfs at will. Some estates became large and influential. With the end of the Weimar Republic, the power of the magnificent estates collapsed. Over the centuries, the fortress of Syraa became the large Gut Sierhagen with a grand manor house in the classicist style. The estate is still surrounded by a moat today. It passed through several noble hands over the centuries; today it belongs to Count and Countess von Scheel-Plessen. The estate operation includes 1,500 hectares of land and forest; it is one of the estates that are still economically successful today. The manor courtyard can be visited at any time, and a stylish break can be taken in the excellent Palmgarten café, provided it is open. One should pay attention to the opening hours; unfortunately, we stood before a locked gate. https://www.gut-sierhagen.de/ Gut Sierhagen in Holstein Switzerland

Here, on the eastern shore of Lake Eutin, not only are kingfishers known to be found, but this is also the best swimming spot. It is distinguished by its sunny location, secluded from the hiking trail at the end of a dead-end path, and offers a comfortable bench for swimming. It also makes a lovely, secluded picnic spot.

Kingfishers can reach flight speeds of up to 90 km/h? ...the kingfisher is a quarrelsome loner outside of the breeding season? ...it digs its nesting burrows up to one meter deep into steep cliffs? ...the sexes of kingfishers can only be distinguished by the color of their beaks? (Males are black, while females have a black upper beak and a light orange-red lower beak) ...the oldest kingfisher, verified by ringing, lived to be ten years old?
