Giethoorn is a small village in the province of Overijssel on the edge of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. Water plays a central role in Giethoorn. The historic village center is car-free and consists of canals, footpaths, and bridges. Traditional boats and modern electric whisper boats are the main means of transport. The north of Giethoorn is still very tranquil, while the southern part is bustling with holidaymakers. Giethoorn thrives on tourism; there are increasing numbers of Indians, Moroccans, and Turks, but especially tour groups from China. Giethoorn is considered a synonym for the Netherlands there. Around a million people flock to the car-free water village every year. As a side note: Thanks to a massive online vote by Chinese internet users, Giethoorn has made it onto the board of the international Monopoly World Edition.

Super beautiful and dreamy little town. Definitely worth it, but absolutely not on a Sunday!!!! It's teeming with people on the paths, which aren't too wide, and leisure captains on the water.

Giethorn is an absolute must. The many small canals, the thatched houses and the many bridges are good for the heart and soul! 😉 Definitely push your bike and just enjoy. It is also certainly interesting to travel through the village with one of the many rentable electric boats or to take a tour with the canal boat.

A beautiful, small, and above all quiet place. I had a few beads of sweat on my forehead before every bridge. Some of them seem to be a bit dated. And were they expecting heavily laden e-bike tourists back then? I don't know :) But it all held up.

The cycle path between Wanneperveen and Giethoorn takes you through a beautiful part of Wieden. Be careful at the bridge, because I advise anyone without steering skills to get off.
