The imposing Gouwesluis Lift Bridge, built in 1938, spans the Gouwe at Alphen aan den Rijn and is an iconic national monument. With its steel construction and characteristic lifting towers, it is not only an important link for traffic, but also a reminder of the infrastructure development of the 20th century.

The name of the Raadhuisstraat refers to the old town hall of the former municipality of Aarlanderveen. Before the arrival of this town hall, municipal meetings took place for centuries in inns such as the Vergulde Wagen. In the 19th century, the then municipality of Aarlanderveen finally got its own town hall. This town hall is a beautiful classical building, with a beautiful wrought iron balcony above the entrance. The roof is decorated with elegant French windows and the whole is crowned by an elegant bell tower.

You can see in several places that the Romans were stationed here. I think the big arcs refer to it too. Also note the church tower of the Adventist church with its many details and the double series of timepieces (2x4 I think!) There are also excellent couches here with a special problem: if you put something down on the couch, you will soon lose it and splash into the water! ((fortunately not for me)

The Alphense Brug is a drawbridge for pedestrians and cyclists (regular buses, emergency services and other exceptional traffic may also use this bridge) in the Pieter Doelmanstraat in Alphen aan den Rijn. It is one of the bridges that span the Old Rhine instead
