The specific spot in the Kluivingsbos has a dark history. On April 19, 1917, two workers, J. Stoffers and C. Tinge, found the lifeless body of Ms. Willemiene Henriette Jansen during work. She was born in Winschoten and was a teacher in Paterswolde. The 29-year-old woman from Groningen, who had been missing since September 21, 1916, had been brutally murdered. On that fateful day in September, she was supposed to visit her family by bicycle. They lived directly opposite the Familiehotel Paterswolde, four hundred meters from the crime scene. She never arrived. Miss Jansen had already been missing for half a year. Despite extensive investigation, this murder case has never been solved to this day. Besides the body, only her bicycle was recovered from the nearby Paterswoldse Meer. The Historical Association Ol Eel has decided to place a memorial stone in memory of this young woman and her sad fate. In addition to the unsolved murder, the case is still surrounded by mystery.
