The Reeuwijkse Plassen are a long, elongated water and nature reserve near Gouda, created by medieval peat extraction. Besides a beautiful view of the polders from the lookout tower, you'll also see something else striking: three dead trees, in the shape of a triangle. The original plan was to build the lookout tower as a kind of treehouse in these three poplars, but that proved too dangerous. Ultimately, the lookout tower was built next to the poplars, and the poplars were transformed into a work of art, with four wooden cormorants as the literal highlight.

The Reeuwijkse Plassen consist of thirteen lakes, twelve of which were created by peat extraction in the 18th century. One lake, the Broekvelden/Vettenbroek, was only created in the 20th century by sand extraction. Today, many of the lakes are used for water recreation.

The former town hall in Driebruggen replaced a cramped old building in 1982 and served as a modern administrative center.
