Lake Rusałka is an artificial, elongated body of water, created in the Middle Ages by damming the waters of the Osówka river flowing through it. This was caused by the construction of two water mills, which after the work were located by the lake - the Lübsche Mill (no longer existing today) on the western bank and the Słodowy Mill (in the eastern part of the lake). In 1900, the areas surrounding the lake were transformed into a park (today's Kasprowicz Park), and in 1915, the Słodowy Mill was adapted into the restaurant Haus am Westendsee (after the German name for the lake, Westendsee). A picturesque bridge with Japanese-style additions was also built over the lake. In the summer, the lake was filled with boats that could be rented here, and in the winter, it turned into a popular ice rink. After World War II, the facilities that remained undamaged by the hostilities began to fall into gradual ruin. In the 1960s, the mill and the turrets on the edges of the pier were dismantled. In the years 1974–76, an amphitheater (Helena Majdaniec Summer Theatre) was built on the slope descending to Rusałka. Currently, the shores of Lake Rusałka are still a popular walking spot for the residents of Szczecin.

In the 1930s, the first park stage was built here, on the shore of Westendsee lake (after 1945 – Rusałka lake) – a wooden platform, next to which were several rows of benches. The remaining spectators could take seats on the grass, on the gentle slope of today's Dolina Niemierzyńska.
