Loop to Fusina with a descent along the Riviera del Brenta, truly an unmissable classic

The Moranzani Navigation Lock is a crucial hydraulic node located between the Southern Lagoon of Venice and the Brenta Canal. It represents the gateway for those navigating from Padua towards the St. Mark's Basin, allowing them to overcome the difference in level between the freshwater of the mainland and the brackish waters. It is not just an engineering work: the surrounding area is the subject of an important environmental redevelopment project for the management of dredging sludge from the lagoon canals. Today, the site combines technical functionality and territorial protection, fitting into the delicate balance between the protection of Venice from tides and the tourist and commercial use of historic waterways.

Fusina is a world unto itself! A must-see for every cyclist in the area, a parallel universe of social interaction, a mix of slow-paced life, people sunbathing and playing cards, and then the rapid comings and goings of cyclists and bikers, stopping for a glimpse of the lagoon and a hello to Venice across the way. Fusina is a marvel!

A tiny drawbridge, the rare times it's closed for pedestrian passage, you can watch the lock being filled and then emptied to allow boats to pass from the Brenta Canal to the lagoon. It's worth seeing in action!

Il Casone Ramei, also known as “Casone Bianco”, was built at the end of the 19th century by the Zecchin family, who lived there until 1979. Subsequently, the Municipality of Piove di Sacco purchased it to restore it in the 1980s. The interiors, such as original furniture and objects, were partly purchased by the Municipal Administration and partly donated by the population. The architectural characteristics are typical of the Veneto Casone, a construction found quite frequently in the Saccisica territory. Today, the Casone of Via Ramei houses the Museum of Popular Culture and Peasant Civilization and consists of two buildings: the main one is the old two-story dwelling (whose focal point is the kitchen, with its characteristic hearth “la cavarzerana”) to which a second body was added during World War II to accommodate the extended family, up to twelve people. The second building once housed the cellars and the tool shed, while the small attic was used as a hayloft. The casone is surrounded by an important park area. https://saccisica.it/item/casone-di-via-ramei-casone-bianco/
