Before the Reformation, the parish included several Waldensian villages such as Chavannes/Md, Brenles, and part of the town of Moudon. In 1846, given the poor condition of the church in Morlens, the problem became urgent, and work began quickly. The plans for our church are based on the architecture of Saint-Martin, which was built during the same period. It is a neo-Gothic building made of molasse. The high altar, the work of Christinaz, as well as the pulpit and side altars, are made of Carrara marble. Consecrated on October 12, 1869, by Bishop Marilley, the church was restored internally in 1933 and 1979, and externally in 1975. A stained-glass window depicting St. Maurice, the work of Broillet, was placed in the central bay of the apse in 1938. The inauguration of the new church took place in 1982, consecrated by Bishop Bullet. The altar and pulpit were designed by Father Guillet, former parish priest, and sculpted by Paul Richoz. The stained-glass windows are by Cottet. Source: https://www.upierroches.ch/paroisse%20Ursy.htm

The church tower of Saint-Etienne was once an integral part of the fortifications. Easily recognizable by its solid construction and the loopholes on the sides. In the tower passage there is an interesting information board stating that Wolfgang Amadé Mozart and his family stopped in Moudon in 1766 on their journey through Switzerland.

Rue, the smallest town in Europe, boasts an exceptional heritage. Take the time to visit its cobbled streets, and discover the castle, churches, and art galleries.

Magnificent place from which you can imagine the history of Moudon from the edge of the Broye and its wooden bridge.
