Plan during the week rather than at the weekend, as there will be fewer visitors then.

Interesting building, it's worth walking down this street and looking at the row of special houses.

One of the Magnificent Seven buildings on the Queen’s Park Savannah Hayes Court was built as the official residence for the Anglican Bishop of Trinidad. Completed in 1910 it is named after Bishop Thomas Hayes who died in 1904 before the building was actually completed. Hayes Courts’ first occupant was the third Bishop of Trinidad, the Right Reverend John Francis Welsh. The building has traditionally been used as the residence of the Anglican Bishops to Trinidad.

The school had its beginnings as the Queen’s Collegiate School in 1858 and the first building was at a different location near Lord Harris Square. The construction of the current Queen’s Royal College building started in 1902, was completed at a cost of £15,000, and was based on the design of the German Renaissance. The restoration project began in 2007. The current student population is around 800. www.qrc.edu/

This residence, built by Mrs. Prada as a gift for her husband Dr. Enrique Prada, was the home of the Prada family for 19 years. The name Mille Fleurs is original, given to the house by Mrs. Prada herself. The house was built in 1904 and its architectural style has been described as French Provincial. Possibly one of the Magnificent Seven’s most gracious and architecturally refined structures, Mille Fleurs is in an advanced stage of deterioration. It is at present unoccupied and no consideration is being given to even the most basic maintenance.

Our guide features 7 family-friendly hiking trails in the Northern Range. These include 4 easy routes perfect for beginners and younger children, and 3 moderate trails for families looking for a bit more challenge.
The Northern Range offers a diverse landscape, from vast grasslands and river valleys to mountain views and unique geological formations. Many areas, such as parts of Yellowstone's Northern Range or Northern Colorado, are known for abundant wildlife and interpretive trails, making them engaging for all ages. The variety ensures there's something for every family's interest and energy level.
Yes, for families who enjoy the beauty of waterfalls, we recommend the Waterfall and Swimming Area loop from Rio Seco. This easy 5.6 km route not only leads to a beautiful waterfall but also features a swimming area, perfect for a refreshing break on a warm day.
Absolutely! Circular routes are excellent for families as they bring you back to your starting point without retracing steps. Consider the Bamboo Cathedral – Tracking Station loop from Macqueripe Beach, an easy 6.1 km trail, or the slightly longer Hiking loop from Port of Spain, a moderate 9.1 km option.
The Northern Range is renowned for its wildlife. Depending on the specific area, you might spot large animals like elk, bison, and deer, especially in regions like Yellowstone's Northern Range. In areas like Rocky Mountain National Park, bighorn sheep and marmots are common at higher elevations. Always observe wildlife from a safe distance and never feed animals.
The best time largely depends on the specific region within the Northern Range. Generally, late spring through early fall (May to October) offers the most favorable conditions, with pleasant temperatures and accessible trails. Summer is ideal for wildflowers in places like American Lakes in Colorado. For specific areas, checking local conditions is always recommended.
Yes, there are several easy trails perfect for beginners or families with very young children. The White Hall – Hayes Court loop from Port of Spain is a gentle 5.2 km route with minimal elevation gain, making it very accessible. Another great option is the Waterfall and Swimming Area loop from Rio Seco, which is also rated easy.
For summer hikes, essential items include plenty of water, snacks, sun protection (hats, sunscreen), insect repellent, and comfortable hiking shoes. Layers of clothing are advisable as mountain weather can change quickly. A first-aid kit, a map or GPS device (like komoot!), and rain gear are also highly recommended.
The komoot community highly rates the trails in this region, with an average score of 4.875 stars. Reviewers often praise the diverse scenery, the well-maintained paths, and the opportunity for wildlife spotting. The accessibility of many routes for different skill levels is also frequently highlighted, making it a favorite for families.
While our listed routes don't have specific highlight data, the broader Northern Range is rich in attractions. For example, in Northern Colorado, you might encounter stunning sandstone formations like those in Garden of the Gods. In Yellowstone's Northern Range, the 'Forces of the Northern Range Self-guided Trail' offers interpretive exhibits. Always check local park information for specific points of interest on your chosen trail.
Dog policies vary significantly across the diverse areas of the Northern Range. Some national parks and protected wilderness areas have strict rules, often requiring dogs to be on a leash or restricting them from certain trails. Other local trails or forest service lands may be more dog-friendly. Always check the specific regulations for the trail or park you plan to visit before bringing your furry friend.
Accessing trails in the Northern Range primarily relies on personal vehicles, as many trailheads are located in more remote natural areas. While some larger towns or national parks might offer limited shuttle services, direct public transport to most trailheads is generally not available. We recommend planning your trip with a car for the most flexibility.
