Grevinde Danner was born into humble circumstances and rose to become the wife of King Frederik VII of Denmark. Despite her wealth, she never forgot her origins and left her fortune to foundations for needy women and children. In 1871, she undertook one of her most significant journeys to the Orient, which took her to Cairo and along the Nile, among other places. This journey dramatically marked a turning point in her life. She had to say goodbye to her long-time companion Carl Berling there. She nevertheless continued her journey, spent time in Athens, and finally passed away in Genoa in 1874.

On Monday, the inner city gained a new statue 👏 Countess Danner is now immortalized in bronze at the corner of Vester S øgade and Gyldenløvesgade, near the Dannerhuset, which she herself founded in 1873. Queen Mary unveiled the monument together with artist Kirsten Justesen on November 25th. The date is not entirely coincidental. It is the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women – a cause Countess Danner fought for and which Dannerhuset continues to work on today 💪 What do you think of the new statue? 💭 📸 Peter Brodersen

Pavilion with nice views to the lake. The pavilion itself hosts parties for the young upperclass of Copenhagen.

One of Copenhagen's lakes with cycleways as well as pedestrian paths for running and walking around. The lakes are quite shallow and can be smelly when the water is low, but in general they are very pretty and popular for recreation amongst locals. Swimming is not allowed, but there's some bars and cafés along the lakes and there are many birds to spot.
