The Antkalniški castle complex is located on a hill on the right bank of the Nemunas River. It dates from the beginning of the second millennium. It has an oval of 38 x 28 meters stretching in north-south direction. On the north side there is a wall 1.5 meters high and 10 meters wide with a moat behind it 8 meters wide and 1 meter deep. The slopes are steep and 20-30 meters high. In 1960, during archaeological excavations, fragments of molded pottery without decorations were found at the foot of the fortress hill. Due to its location in close proximity to the river and its very steep and high slopes, it can be assumed that this hill was used for reconnaissance during the battles with the Crusaders as it offers a very good view of the Memel river bend.

Here is a small cemetery for mostly German soldiers who died in World War I. I did not find this war cemetery in the directory of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. The place looked a little scruffy when I visited.
