The so-called Heimkehrerdenkmal (Homecomer Monument) on Bahnhofsplatz in Wiener Neustadt commemorates all soldiers who returned from captivity after the Second World War. The sandstone sculpture was designed by the sculptor Wilhelm Wurzer, who had it erected in 1976 on behalf of the city and the Homecomer Association. It is intended to be a symbolic monument, above all, to the approximately 60,000 homecomers who were handed over to Austrian authorities at the city's train station at the time, coming from Russia.

The Warme Fischa originates in the area of the thermal baths in Bad Fischau and flows as a roughly 19-degree warm body of water towards Wiener Neustadt. In the urban area, the crossing with the Wiener Neustädter Kanal is a real peculiarity, as the stream is spectacularly channeled underneath the artificial waterway. In addition to its significance as a popular local recreation area in the Schmuckerau, it is also a well-known fishing ground, although recently the water body has also been increasingly in the headlines due to summer drought and falling water levels.

The Achtersee, west of Wiener Neustadt, is a body of water formed from two former gravel pits, whose name refers to its shape resembling the number eight. The area has developed into a popular urban recreational area that, in addition to bathing areas, also hosts playgrounds, sports facilities, and the beach club „Himmelblau“. To ensure the safety of visitors on the partly steep banks, the facility has been gradually redesigned in recent years and equipped with controlled access.

Until the lake was completely fenced in, this place was a beautiful place, especially in the evenings, with a lovely holiday vibe. Now it's more like an enclosure.
