The best city hikes and walks in Werra-Meißner-Kreis

In the middle of the castle garden, by the former Landgrafenschloss, is the small but worthwhile little tower. This small watchtower was built in 1582.

Three human-sized sculptures, which look confusingly similar to the real ones, stand here by the roadside.

The Witzenhausen Town Hall was built on the footprint of the predecessor building from before the city fire of 1479. From master builder H. Wetzel, a simple, three-story Renaissance stone building with a high octagonal stair tower on the north side was erected in 1589/90, using parts of Gothic masonry. In 1809 it burned down completely and was restored in 1819 in a classically sober form.

The Liebfrauenkirche Witzenhausen is located directly in the old town. It was begun in 1220 as a late Romanesque basilica. The current building is a three-nave hall church with wide-spanning arcades. The tall west tower was extended upwards.

The bridge over the Werra is a stone arch bridge.

Municipal swimming pools belong as social facilities to participation and as such to the provision of basic needs. This has nothing to do with left-wing positions. Simple constitutional law. Whoever denies this, like the local press apparently, is alien to social reality. Access to - as here - public swimming pools must not be made difficult, hindered, or completely impossible in this respect, and we must all contribute to ensuring that they are not closed. 🏊🖐️Only if nobody goes anymore? 🤔..."

2026, Witzenhäuser Freibad abolishes cash. My absolute favorite destination in Witzenhausen so far and the best outdoor pool far and wide. 🖐️🏊🩳🛟🥽😎 After 5 stars so far, but only 3 for now due to the new discriminatory checkout system from 2026. Municipal facilities, to which the Witzenhausen outdoor pool belongs, can of course also provide cashless access; this is also advocated by me. Legally, they are and remain, ignoring social reality and also knowingly denied by the local press, within the framework of participation still obliged to guarantee access with cash as well. Independently of an already changed leisure behavior with fewer and fewer swimming pool visitors (unless the outside temperature is between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius), are there not already enough non-swimmers? Do there have to be more and more? 🤔

The Lohgerberbrunnen fountain in the "Stad" in Eschwege is a monument to craftsmanship. Lohgerbers were once sought-after specialists who produced durable leather for shoe soles (Source HNA)
