It's quite an impressive sight once you've climbed the hill from the parking lot and the view opens up to the dam and lake. The massive dam is particularly striking from the side. Unfortunately, despite several visits, we've never actually witnessed the spectacle of the lake overflowing. The views behind the dam are also interesting. Here you can watch the excursion boats departing. When the water level is low, passengers are taken down by elevator.

"A lake between high mountains" – that's the motto of the Diemelsee Nature Park. The nature park is located on the edge of the Sauerland region, on the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. The heart of the nature park is the lake of the same name. Beautifully framed by the highest mountains of the Sauerland, dotted with gentle valleys, expansive forests, and blooming heaths, the nature park stretches over an area of 334 square kilometers and offers you soothing natural surroundings. Nestled in between are historic towns with their charming half-timbered houses. Detailed information about the Diemelsee Nature Park can be found here: https://nationale-naturlandschaften.de/gebiete/naturpark-diemelsee.
