The Göpfersdorf airfield was built in 1975 and was primarily used as an agricultural airfield during the GDR era. Z-37 aircraft took off from here to deliver pesticides to the surrounding fields. After the “reunification”, however, agricultural flights became increasingly unprofitable and were soon abandoned entirely because the large agricultural areas largely fell back into private ownership. But what happened to the airfield site? Since several people were interested in maintaining the airfield (as such), a glider pilot who had switched to ultralight flying obtained the first permits in 1991 in order to be able to practice ultralight flying in Göpfersdorf. More and more enthusiasts came together, so that the “Flugverein Göpfersdorf e.V.” was founded in the same year. With the new members, new aircraft also came into the club and halls had to be built to accommodate them. The “Flugverein Göpfersdorf e.V.” currently has around 30 members and 11 aircraft, the “Flugsportverein Altenburger Land” has around 70 members and 9 aircraft.
