Located directly on the Roman road. King Wilhelm II is said to have been here, a military training area was planned there in 1892 (but was then built in Münsingen) and at the end of 1945 there was a camouflaged airfield on this site.

The place owes its name to the Württemberg King Wilhelm II, who stayed here in 1899 to observe maneuvers. In 1945, a German Wehrmacht field airfield was located here for a few months. When it was hastily abandoned, not only were a few fighter planes left behind, but also a motorized fire engine, which was used by the Nellingen fire department until 1968.

The official description from 1842 mentions that excellent pottery clay was dug on Oppinger Markung. This was mined into meter-thick layers. At that time they spoke of 3 fathoms. 1 KLafter corresponded to a height of 1.8m. The clay was then sold to the Hafner (potters) in Ulm, Schelklingen and Münsingen.
