Mummendorf Village Church The old brick church sits picturesquely on its hill above the wild and romantic meadows of the Stepenitz River. The small river meanders through its winding valley through forest and fields, following its traditional bed, which has never been straightened or altered. From the church, gaze over the river and hilltops, and you're looking down on two ancient lands. For centuries, the Mummendorf parish united what had been politically divided: the villages west of the Stepenitz belonged to Mecklenburg-Strelitz, those east to Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

The founding of the town of Rehna between 1150 and 1160 also included the construction of a water mill. This location made it possible to dam the Radegast and use the water from the pond to operate the mill. At the same time, the mill dam also provided a good opportunity to cross the river safely. The economic relations between the two cathedral cities of Henry the Lion, Lübeck and Schwerin, quickly led to the creation of a country road that needed this river crossing. Lenin's great-great-great-great-grandfather operated this mill from 1712 to 1717. Many legends and fairy tales surround this mill, which, as was usual at the time, had an inn and a hostel in the adjacent gatehouse. After all, people often drank heavily while waiting for the milling to take place, so that even then it was not always possible to distinguish between truth and fantasy. An Os or Wallberg is a wall-like, often curved elevation made of sand and gravel that was formed during the Ice Age. A great little forest area with a beautiful stream.
