The fishermen of the Haffküste fishing cooperative head out onto the lagoon daily or empty their fish traps in the Uecker River. They bring ashore fresh perch, pike-perch, roach, eel, burbot, salmon, and whitefish. Under the old chestnut trees, the fishermen's nets dry, and idyllic boathouses evoke memories of bygone days, while modern facilities for cooling and processing the catch are also available. You can also buy freshly caught fish directly from the fishermen.

Many people from Ueckermünde still know him as a Ueckermünde original: Walter Schultz, whom everyone called Fidel-Schultz. The small, lively Ueckermünde native went from bar to bar with his accordion, performed at family celebrations and was no stranger to sadness. With his nasal voice, he sang songs that went with the water and always had a wide audience. In the city of Ueckermünde's anniversary year, a bronze sculpture of Fidel-Schultz was inaugurated on November 26, 2010 at the Old Bollwerk in front of the new tourist information center. The artist Christian Paschold, who lives near Erfurt, made this figure as a result of an invitation competition organized by the city. Walter Schultz's widow, her daughter and granddaughter were present at the ceremonial unveiling of the bronze figure and were very pleased with the successful work. Since then, Fidel has greeted arriving sailors and passers-by on the Uecker promenade and has probably been immortalized in hundreds of holiday photos. Ueckermünde.de
