"König Heinrichs Vogelherd" is the name of an early medieval castle from the 9th century. This is located on the northern slope of the Rotenberg ridge in the southern Harz foreland. The building was only mentioned once in a document in 929. Unfortunately, the original name of the castle has not been passed down. Since it was a frequent place of residence of the first German King Heinrich I, it is now called "King Heinrichs Vogelherd", i.e. the place where he pursued the activity of bird catching and where, according to legend, in 919 the German Royal dignity is said to have been offered.
