August 17, 2026, Town Hall Burg

The first Burger Rathaus was built in the Romanesque style in 1224 during the era of municipal self-government. Today, only the massive fieldstone walls in the outline of the cellar remain. The historic town hall, which today shines in a bright white and yellow, was built around 1550. During a third redesign in 1702, the town hall building received its Baroque accents. Finally, in 1893, it was extended by a third floor. The large town hall hall contains a replica of the city's oldest coat of arms. Today, the building houses, among other things, the Burger registry office. https://www.touristinfo-burg.de/sehenswertes/architektur/rathaus.html

August 17, 2026, Berliner Turm Burg

The Berliner Turm is a listed tower of the historical city fortifications of the town of Burg. It stands on the north side of Berliner Straße, east of Burg's town center, was built in the 14th century from fieldstones and belonged as a gate tower to the Berliner Tor. The gate, also known as Liebfrauentor, was demolished in 1806, but the round tower was preserved. In the middle of its height, it has two layers of brick. The tower is crowned by a wreath also made of brick. Inside the tower, remnants of the beginnings of ribbed vaults can be found. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berliner_Turm_(Burg_bei_Magdeburg)

August 17, 2026, Hexenturm in Burg

The Hexenturm was built in the 11th century in Burg, and it is assumed that it was initially square and only received its round shape towards the end of the 15th century. Due to the loopholes, it is assumed that it served as a guard and defense tower. At the beginning of the 17th century, several witch trials took place in Burg. During this time, the tower was used as a prison for the alleged witches, which is where its name comes from. The tower contains a six-meter-deep dungeon. The prisoners could be lowered there through a round opening in the floor. The Hexenturm retained its function as a women's prison until 1846. In that year, a new courthouse with a prison was built in Burger Hainstraße. The tower was to be demolished several times in the following period, as there was no longer any use for it. However, these plans failed. It was restored by monument conservators as early as 1985, which is commemorated by the year on the tower's spire. Between 1998 and 1999, it was then comprehensively renovated and can be visited today as part of guided tours. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexenturm_(Burg)

The Protestant city church "Unser Lieben Frauen" in Burg near Magdeburg - mostly called Oberkirche by the locals - is a significant, predominantly Gothic hall church with Romanesque origins. It is located on a small hill in the historic old town next to the town hall and is an important stop on the tourist route of Romanesque architecture. The church's most striking feature is its two different spire tops. Until the year 1500, both west towers were exactly the same height. For the installation of a watchman's apartment, the south tower roof was reduced, and in the late 16th century, both towers received their current, completely individual helmets. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unser_Lieben_Frauen_(Burg_bei_Magdeburg)
