🌉 The Moselle bridge in Bernkastel-Kues is far more than just a transport link – it is the vital artery that connects the two very different districts of Bernkastel (old town) and Kues (plateau & hospital).

The timber framing, which overhangs on three sides, was only uncovered in 1914. Due to the fire hazard, the timber framing had been plastered over in the years prior. The charming bay window and the timber-framed facades are testaments to the traditional architecture of the Moselle region. The design of the pointed cottage vividly and clearly symbolizes the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque period. It is also a typical example of old Moselle winegrowers' houses, with its wine cellar lined with slate and oak beams, the projecting upper floors on both sides, and the high attic storage area for winter fodder and livestock. Inside the cottage, on the ground floor, is now the wine tavern of the Schmitz-Herges family winery.
