A path runs along the Haunestausee, partly directly on the shore. This gives you great views of the lake and the wonderful forests on the other shore.

Many bikers will probably just roll past such a small sacred monument as the one presented to them on the side of the road without paying much attention to the depiction of the cross. But from my point of view - admittedly purely subjective - the crucifix, which shows us the crucified Christ, definitely deserves a short break on the way.

The first documented mention of the moated castle dates back to 1146. Between 1606 and 1622, it underwent extensive remodeling in the Renaissance style by Johann Friedrich von Schwalbach. In the 20th century, the complex was initially used as a hotel and later as a private clinic. Unfortunately, much to the dismay of the Mackenzell population, necessary renovation work on the privately owned property has been neglected for years.
