The Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche (Holy Cross Church) is Offenburg's oldest Catholic parish church and one of the city's most important historical buildings. Its origins date back to the 13th century. After being largely destroyed in the city fire of 1689, it was rebuilt on the preserved foundations in the style of Vorarlberg Baroque architecture. With its 68-meter-high tower, it is Offenburg's tallest building. Particularly noteworthy are the magnificent Rococo high altar from 1740, the Gothic choir with preserved medieval wall remnants, the Josefs-Chörlein (Joseph's Chapel) with a Renaissance crucifix from 1521, and the historic Ölberg (Mount of Olives) next to the church, which is considered one of Offenburg's most valuable art monuments.
