From the barbecue and rest area at the edge of the forest, the view extends far into the southern Wetterau – towards Friedberg, Bad Nauheim, and in clear weather, all the way to the Großer Feldberg in the Taunus. The spot is ideal for a short break. Or perhaps a dance instead? Since 1807, the Wäldchestag, a colorful folk festival under a green canopy of leaves, has been held annually in the neighboring Ossenheimer Wäldchen.

On this section, you follow the course of the Usa near Friedberg. The gently meandering river originates in Neu-Anspach in the Taunus mountains, about 30 kilometers away, and has been gradually renatured for about 15 years. Weirs have been removed and bank reinforcements dismantled. Close to the clear water, you follow the wild-grown bank of the river to its confluence with the Wetter. With a bit of luck, you can observe a few beavers building their dams or grey herons hunting.

The spa park in Bad Salzhausen, laid out in 1826 by Heinrich Karl Bindernagel, is one of the oldest and largest of its kind in Germany with its 52 hectares. Once the center of salt production, the town gained great fame through the research of the chemist Justus Liebig, who between 1828 and 1831 researched the healing effects of the brine and helped Bad Salzhausen gain recognition as a spa town. The historic graduation tower, the bell house, and the old water wheel, alongside contemporary art, shape the park's image to this day – an ideal place to let the salty air blow around your nose and switch off for a while.

The hut of the Ranstadt Nature and Bird Protection Group (NaVo) was built in 2016 by club members on their own initiative – an extended break here is well worth it. After many kilometers in the saddle or in hiking boots, you can get your circulation going in the Kneipp pool and stimulate blood flow in your feet on the barefoot path over various surfaces in a completely relaxed way. A small oasis right on the R4!

Some only use it in the summer to refresh their feet.
