The history of Leipzig Airport begins in the 1920s, south of the current airport site. The airport in Schkeuditz was officially opened in 1927. The airport building is located in the middle of what is now an industrial area, a few minutes' walk from Schkeuditz train station. Built in the typical style of the 1930s, it consists of several cubes and a tower. The external façade is also characterized by the red-brown porphyry typical of the region. After being used as an airport building, the terminal was part of VEB Maschinen- und Apparatebau Schkeuditz, and today it houses offices.
