The Hotel Buntes Haus is the oldest inn in Seiffen. It was founded 480 years ago as a hereditary court. Originally, court trials took place here – and the judge also held the right to serve alcohol. This right was passed down from generation to generation. And so it came to be that the people of Seiffen have been meeting in these venerable rooms for hundreds of years. Colorful is the name! The inn has borne the name "Buntes Haus" (Colorful House) since 1921. At that time, the windows were painted a bright blue, visible from afar. They have remained so to this day – and the "colorful atmosphere" continues throughout the entire building. https://seiffen.de/unterkunft/buntes-haus-seiffen-hotel-erbgericht/

The Schwibbogenhaus (Candle Arch House) is centrally located in Seiffen at Hauptstraße 96, right at the large intersection near the Seiffner Haus. The red timber-framed building dates back to 1646 and is considered one of the most striking buildings in the town center. Its thematic focus – as the name suggests – is the Schwibbogen (candle arch) in many variations: traditional designs with Seiffen village scenes and miners, modern versions with LED technology, or delicate silhouettes, along with matching window decorations and accessories. https://zum-erzgebirge.de/orte/schwibbogenhaus-seiffen/

The sculpture by artist Jay Gard, powder-coated in white and made of sheet steel, spells out the word "Plywood." Metal simulates wood, and the interplay is heightened by the use of the iconic typography of the word "Hollywood." In several ways, Gard's sculpture seems to pretend to be something it isn't, given its material. In fact, it demonstratively presents linguistic and visual symbols. The technique of playfully combining signs reveals a loose relationship that exists between many linguistic or visual symbols and the meanings they convey. For example, the seven letters of the word "Plywood" could be used to create 46 (English) words with a wide variety of meanings. Material: powder-coated copper Size: 8 x 4 x 1.80 m https://purple-path.de/jay-gard-plywood/

Leaving the path along the Black Pockau River towards Katzenstein, we re-enter the forest and are now accompanied by the Green Ditch. An artificial ditch, constructed in the 17th century to aid mining. We feel as if fairies and elves are dancing around us. A stretch of rust-brown pine needles marks the path as we continue through this landscape. https://youtu.be/LYmwgx7Z0Lk
