With the completion of all the work, which was completed in September 2023, Meerane now has a new park. This includes around 21,500 square meters of flowering meadows and lawns and 1,200 square meters of paved area (paths and lounge areas). An asphalt path crosses the area as the main path, and there is another asphalt path in the eastern area. Lighting is installed on the main path. 50 solitary trees and around 20,000 bushes were planted in the middle area and on the slopes. 530 hornbeams were planted to demarcate the site from the outer Crimmitschauer Straße, replacing a fence. Over 3,000 black alders, common oaks and winter linden trees were planted in a reforestation area directly adjacent to Wilhelm-Wunderlich-Park. Finally, the area was equipped with benches, wastebaskets, dog toilets and bicycle racks as well as a swift lantern. Some steel beams from the former Louis Quaas & Co mechanical weaving mill were also integrated into the site and are a reminder of the industrial past. The deep well has been put back into operation since the end of August 2023 and is now used to irrigate the plants. The first trees were planted in 1994 and since then the forest has continued to grow with annual plantings. Couples tying the knot or celebrating marriage anniversaries have planted trees here. Trees are also planted on the occasion of the birth of a child, the start of school, youth initiation and confirmation, anniversaries or to commemorate a loved one. The trees also announce the founding of clubs or class reunions. On the approximately 22,260 square meter area of the "Meeran Wedding Forest" in the economic center, a total of 598 trees were planted for the annual planting, and so after ten years a goal was achieved, the green belt around Meerane again a piece close. For this reason, the 21st planting in autumn 2004 was also the last at this location. Source: https://www.meerane.de/planting-of-a-tree-im-meeraner-meerchenwald.html
